Lots of people would argue with me and advocate Newton, which I could possibly agree to if we restricted ourselves to pure science and math.
But Newton was a jealous curmudgeon who shunned society, while Einstein was a great humanitarian in addition to having a unique mind for science which still looms large over physics more than 50 years after his death.
I could see a case being made for Leonardo and some other true polymaths and savants as well, as well as "wise" people like The Buddha.
Of course, there's no one "smartest person," as though life were a contest of some sort, and intelligence were a linearly measurable quantity, like height or weight.
Still, if I was asked the question on a survey and had to pick someone, I think I'd have to go with Al.
I agree - intelligent and common sense!!
