he was obviously, by his lyrics and now by his photographs and drawing, a real romantic wasn't he?
I miss Danny Boy.
Dan Fogelberg was quite a talented guy! Master musician with a voice of gold, songwriter with hundreds of beautiful songs in "his quiver" and a wonderful photographer and very talented painter. He was a romantic and from all accounts a naturally great guy, though very protective of his privacy. A fan for over 30 years--Dan is so sorely missed, a year after his succumbing to cancer, it still grieves me to think of him gone. Life is not fair, but while Dan was alive, I believe he made the most of his, living smartly and on his own terms. A truly sas loss for us...
Thanks for the wonderful and very true words. I feel the exact way that you do. I quite literally grew up listening to him, and rather than resist the idea because he was someone "my parents liked," I found I was drawn to those those same qualities - his soothing voice, his beautiful lyrics, his expert musicianship, his unapologetic romanticism, and all the things than made a kid, then adolescent, teen, college kid, and finally this adult feel there really were GOOD people in the world.
His music may have been an escape in a sense, but we need that, and besides, as an actual human being from all accounts he was extremely down to earth and just a very real, unpretentious person - as you said. He is definitely missed. But the great thing is we have the music he left behind to listen to for the rest of our lives.
Thanks for the post Anon!
It is still hard to believe that Dan is no longer with us. His music will forever be with me, as it has been since the early 70's. These photos were actually taken by his wife Jean. She designed them as cards that are for sale on the Prostate Cancer Foundation website. Jean is doing such a wonderful job of keeping Dan's memory alive for all of us Dan Fans!!
