one I haven't heard in years... and sadly what once was a just a good song to listen to now gets me just a teensy bit depressed when I think about the lyrics. *sigh*

Yeah, I know what you mean, it's a sad song for a rainy day or a wistful mood. But sometimes songs like that are soothing too. I always liked this one growing up, but then I guess I have a thing for "depressing" songs. I just identify when them more. I like upbeat music too, when I'm in THAT mood - guess there's a right time and place for everything.

I never agreed with people who said the music I listened to (and still do) MADE me or KEPT me sad, not that you're saying that. I think to have a way to express how you're feeling no matter if it's joy, sorrow, angst, wistfulness, whatever, is a good thing whether it's writing poetry or listening to others' "poetry" in the form of songs. It helps me feel like someone else out there has felt the same way and is like having a friend in that way.

I think that's why people develop such strong attachments to songs, especially, but also to novels and movies and things with which they can identify. Of course, some people take it to far and think the writing is writing for them specifically and then you get stalkers, hehe.

Anyway I just like the music on this one too - I'm not usually much for soulful jazz or however you'd characterize it, blues, etc, but there are some definite exceptions and as I get older I find myself liking songs from those genres more and more - motown for example. I think we get more wistful as we get older...
