Happy Halloween everybody. Here are some big cats enjoying the holiday.

They're having so much fun :) Perhaps I could find some mini squah for my lot to play with. Currently Elbi has a penchant for apples and I have to tell her off every time she goes near the fruit bowl.

What fun! I love the lynxs the most as they seemed to really be getting a kick out of their pumpkins as opposed to some of the big cats who seemed more like they were hell bent on killing them... remind me again why idiots think it's a good idea to have one of those big guys as pets?!

Thanks everyone for watching. Yeah, the lynxes seems especially playful. It always amazes me how exactly the same the behavior of big cats to that of their house-living cousins. The only real difference seem to be their proportions and looks. We've all seen our miniature friends do things like purr, rub their whiskers on things, move things with their paws then pounce on the suddenly "alive" object, swish their tails, and on and on.

Except when your lap cat decides to chomp your fingers when he's overstimulated, and then run off with his tail like a flagpole, it's cute or at worst, mildly annoying. If a big cat were to do that...

That's why people should never own them! (Amongst other reasons.)

Please help save the precious remaining big cats, primates, whales, and all other animals who are threatened directly by human hunting and poaching, or indirectly through habitat loss. Once we lose them, they will never be back. That is just too sad to think about.

Also - fight experimentation and other cruelty inflicted on animals. Who are we to think we're so important that we can do horrible things to other creatures with feelings just to help develop new drugs (or even worse, new beauty products)? The human race has achieved remarkable things; it has also profligately destroyed much of the planet's biosphere and crowded out or actively annihilated many of the other millions of species we share the earth with. This is greedy and inexcusable, not to mention stupid from a survival standpoint. If it were not for the great biodiversity that has evolved, we'd never have "accomplished" so much of what we have.

Even if you look at it from the selfish needs of our species, it makes bad economic sense to continue to decimate that diversity in favor of agricultural monoculture, GMO crops, slash and burn forest cutting practices, and unsustainable urban development. We are sowing the seeds of our own destruction by wrecking the bounty of nature we evolved within. I hate to think what this world will be like in the years after I am gone.
