Btw photos. See a world-record here:

70 BILLION pixels, biggest resolution AND panoramapicture ever (so far), and it is about Budapest, made by hungarian guys! :)))))

Yikes... should I even click the link or will my RAM explode?

Mandula said...

You should, never mind the RAM. :D

That is stunningly beautiful.

I could almost show you our window, but unfortunately the angle of the view is not perfect for it - the 4th floor is visible, but the third is not... :)

Hi Mags!

The Canadian Rockies have the most beautiful lakes because of the glacial waters being aqua in color - Lake Maligne near Jasper is surrounded by glaciers too. I took a little boat cruise on it with Bytedoc. Maligne River is unbelievable. Races are held for daredevil kayakers riding the whitewater.

Wow... I've seen lots of photos so I know it's beautiful, and Nic used to send me lots of pics when they drove the few hours to get out there (lucky ducks), but I'm sure in person it's twice as spectacular.

Those glaciers sure did their work!

Thanks for posting. I'd like to visit Banff/Jasper someday and do one of those dangerous kayak adventures. I have no fear!

WOW! I've always wanted to visit Banff and Jasper national parks, as well as all the fantastic parks you have in the US. Hopefully, sooner or later I'll make it!
@ Mandula: that photograph of Budapest is a true marvel! Had seen a similar picture of Paris (but it was "only" 26 gigapixels, if I remember correctly). You could zoom in and peep through people's windows. Amazing!

G, if you and Davide ever do come to North America again (well ok, the WEST part of it), you'd better stop and visit me!

I could give you a tour of giant redwood forests, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, San Francisco, Alcatraz, whale-watching from rocky cliffs, the best sourdough bread on the planet, and some of the finest wineries and restaurants in the world, right up there with France and Italy!

And best of all, we could finally meet in person =)

Forget my 12-megapixel SLR camera. I want a GIGAPIXEL camera now!! Lol.

Could you imagine trying to edit anything in Photoshop? Move it 3 pixels... wait an hour... Zzzz.

Cool stuff for specialized projects like this one, though! They must have a whole room of computer workstations to manipulate something that large (mostly just tons of RAM, but also a whole bunch of processors running in parallel).

I'm a high-resolution junkie. I'd double or quadruple the pixel density of standard monitors if I could AND make them larger, increase the power of video cards by an order of magnitude or two, and make everything from games to web browsing to viewing art to having a video conversation with someone as realistic as the human eyes is capable of detecting.

Well, maybe not video conversations. I wouldn't want those to look TOO detailed. I'm much too shy, and plus, I wouldn't want to have to get all dressed up just to talk to someone on the computer. That's the point of instant messaging or email! I can be in my pajamas and no one will know ;-)

Whale-watching from rocky cliffs, wine and bread, forests... oh, I'd love that!!!

Giusi, it can be stunning too! :)

Are you talking about me? ;)

Must resist taking a plunge into what must be frigid but insanely tempting waters...

Maybe you could bottle it and sell it for $3 a bottle as "Banff Glacial."
