The day it rained forever.

River silences.
A tree gathering
a sky of crows.
Drifting buckeyes.
A hunter through
scrub and rat
bones; pockets of
bulletbricks
and pony beers.
River silences.
Coalsmoke and
freezing dogs.
Iron wheels
in mud cracks.
Roadside tomb-
stones behind
a hatching night.
White green skies,
solemn aurorae.
River silences.
Dead stars
changing places.
Staring pumpkins
in open rooms
carried across
the stonelights
of eternity.
