Good ones, Empath! Bouguereau, I almost forgot about him, thanks. And kayaking wouldn'd had popped into my mind if you hadn't mentioned it, nor would snow skiing probably.

I disagree with D3, remember E5 with guilt still, F2 was quite brave and I'm proud of you for it, E6 was very poorly worded on my part, sorry. Sorry about G6, H2 is great, I4 - lol, I5 really??

Thanks for playing! Fun to learn more even about people you know really well.

Sara said...

O.T = Old Testament. Fascinating stuff.

Sardines is really my favourite game but nobody ever wants to play it with me these days, coz they're all too grown up I suppose. It's a party game and best played in a large house. You turn off all the lights, then one person goes and hides somewhere. The other players split up and silently search for the missing person. When someone finds the 'hider' they quietly get into the same hiding place and wait for the others. Eventually, one by one, people find the hiding place which gets more and more stuffed with bodies - hence sardines(in a can!)Last one loses. Trust me, it's very funny.

I remember one ridiculous game, years ago, where 4 of us spent a very uncomfortable half hour crouched under a table in the dark, trying not to giggle and give the hiding place away while we waited for the final player to find us all. Well we waited and waited, whispering 'Where the hell is Frank?' What's taking him so long?' Only to have Frank suddenly explode with laughter, having been hidden under the table with the rest of us all along. Picture the ridiculousness of a situation where five supposed adults are crouched under a table in the dark, for half an hour, for no reason whatsoever!

Well, we are were all English and probably a bit drunk too.

In answer to you last questions, still technically employed but have been off work for weeks and now diagnosed with CFS following a mono infection in March. All very frustrating and a bit scary. Would love to hear from you, so email away anytime J. xx

"Don't Fade Away" by Dead Can Dance, "Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me" by The Smiths, "God" by John Lennon, "Echoes" by Pink Floyd, and I'll stop there or I'll list 25. Mags was right, 3 is too hard, so I've cheated.

B4 - Cars or trucks?
Cars, especially fast ones with grippy tires.

B5 - Dogs or cats?
Kitty cats.

B6 - Staying in or going out?
I stay in so much in actual fact that it's a treat to go out. If I went out more I would tire of it and want more 'home' time. So both.

C1 - History that interests you?
Ancient Egypt (above all), Ancient Greece, Sumeria, Akkadia, Persia, Hittites/Anatolia (modern Turkey), The Holy Land (Levant), Syria, Ancient Britain, the time of The Crusades/Templars in France, the Merovingian kings, Knights Templar and Hospitaller, Cathars, Gnostics, Tartars, Cossacks, Sarmatians, Huns, and other plains people, Byzantium at its height, Ancient Norse, the Cretaceous period, Ancient Sudan and Ethiopia (Nubia), Madagascar, and Victorian/Edwardian England, among others.

Metamatician said...

Part 2/3...

D1 - Introverted or extroverted?
Introverted, but capable of extroversion if put on the spot or behind a computer screen. People tend to balance out with age, I think.

D2 - Better speaking or listening?
I can talk forever once I get going (a fault of mine), but I do enjoy listening to interesting people very much.

D3 - Are you "a good catch"?
That depends... financially, practically - at the moment, no. For intellect, passion, intimacy, and potential, then yes. But it would take a leap of faith from the other person.

D4 - Angsty or calm person?
Very angsty, though I control it better now than when I was younger.

D5 - Open-minded or decided?
I'd like to say completely open-minded, but I think it's closer to 70/30, maybe even closer. I have some strong opinions but I am quite capable of being swayed by evidence. I like to think I'm rational about most things, but I don't deny I'm emotional as well.

D6 - Quickly learn detailed tasks?
When the tasks are interesting, then definitely.

D7 - Do you consider your memory skills above or below average? Below in the short-term or for anything practical or uninteresting. Above for trivial facts or subjects which interest me. I remember very odd, specific things for no reason.

E1 - Highest score you're bowled?
239, but that was an aberration. Only bowled over 200 twice. Average is MUCH lower, maybe 135 or something. Depends on how often I go, as with anyone.

E2 - Date frequently or rarely?
Rarely, but in long-term relationships.

E3 - Associate numbers with colors?
Intensely, yes. Everything else too: people, countries, smells, you name it. They all have colors.

E4 - Ever had formal therapy?
Yes.

E5 - Ever had an organ removed?
Two, in fact.

E6 - Names you like for girls?
I like Russian names and old-fashioned names: Sonia, Katerina, Natalia, Selene, Sophia, Lucinda, Claire, Emily, Natasha, Sadie, Susannah.

E7 - Movies: Theatre or home?
In a nice modern theatre with great sound. IMAX if possible!

F1 - Strength, endurance, or agility?
Agility for sure.

F2 - Bravest thing you've done?
Gone in for shock therapy I suppose. Although, I was desperate, so I don't know how brave it really was. Also, I raised a child, that's brave for anyone. And it takes bravery just to make it through some nights.

F3 - Furthest you've traveled?
Thailand, Russia/Ukraine, Switzerland/Germany/Austria.

F4 - Passionately to 55 or gently to 80?
Argh...I would have always said 55 till fairly recently. I'm less than 20 years from that age now so I'll pick 80!

F5 - Famous or anonymous?
Famous, if it was for something I earned and was proud of, like making a discovery or writing a book, and if the fame didn't backlash. Not TOO famous - I'd hate to lose all my privacy. Not Brad Pitt famous, more like Einstein (known, respected, looked up to). That would be ok, but I could also do without it and stay anonymous. It doesn't bother me at all, though the perks would be nice (seats at a nice restaurant, tickets to a concert or musical, big sporting event etc.)

F6 - Rich without intimacy or loved but poor?
Very loved. Life is empty for me without a strong and loving companion in my life.

F7 - Have you ever been baptized?
Nope.

Metamatician said...

Part 3/3...

G1 - Theist, deist, agnostic, or atheist?
Agnostic. Certainly not theistic.

G2 - Get excited by speed?
Oh hell yeah.

G3 - Rather lose vision or hearing?
Crap...hearing, I guess. :-|

G4 - Good driver? Like to drive?
Yes, I'm a good driver, though my mind wanders at times, which isn't good. I only actually enjoy driving if it's in a sports car on a curvy road, or to somewhere I haven't been before. Hate routine driving.

G5 - Parallel parking? 1-10. Be honest!
10!

G6 - Longest romantic relationship?
11 years, not that it was always romantic.

G7 - What do you order at Starbucks?
Grande mocha frappaccino, twice blended, no whip.

H1 - Do you have a favorite number?
Yes, 2 and 22. I like squares a lot as well. I respect primes but they make me uneasy, especially the Mersenne variety. Part of it is that I generally loathe odd numbers, and all primes are obviously odd. Extremely odd, in fact.

H2 - Long for the past or look to the future?
I can't help it, I long for the past. I'm trying to change that, but it's hard.

H3 - Do you like your own name?
I'm fine with it, it's only a name.

H4 - Age: OK or distraught?
Distraught. I feel 18 sometimes, 80 sometimes. Never 36 though. It's going by too quickly...

H5 - Enjoy looking through family photographs?
Yes, very much. I'm really nostalgic.

H6 - Favorite season?
Spring and autumn - mild weather and the excitement of change in the air. Don't like extremes of either heat or cold. Between the two... Spring I guess, despite some allergies. It's just so beautiful, and the days are getting longer :) I love the colors of autumn though, and the first bite of chill in the air after a long, sweaty summer.

H7 - Times you've had your heart broken?
Five.

I1 - Play a musical instrument?
No. I took some piano lessons and I learned a bit on the bass and keyboards from my dad, but I never kept either up. Would love to learn guitar. I think I'd be great at drums, but I'm not interested in learning!

I2 - Sweet or savory snacks?
Savory, please.

I3 - Coke or Pepsi? Regular or Diet?
Classic Coke, in all its teeth-destroying glory. I'm trying to limit my intake to lose some pounds/kilos, so I'm drinking mineral water and diet soda w/lemon much more often now. :-|

I4 - Scared by lions, tigers, or bears?
They're all to be respected and feared (and treasured), but grizzly and Kodiak bears scare the crap out of me. Bill's right though, all of them, in the wild. At least I could pet a tiger real quick while it was eating me, though.

I5 - Have you ever broken a bone?
Right collarbone (clavicle) twice, and at least one finger, maybe even a rib. Heart-bone a few times, see above.

I6 - Red wine, white wine, beer, cocktails?
Hmm... GOOD red wine, refreshing & tasty ale, cocktails (eg, white russian or irish coffey), in that order. White wine = yuck. Love dry champagne though; thanks for the reminder Bill.

I7 - Which languages do you speak?
Only really English. I can communicate basic ideas and understand more than I can speak in both German and Spanish, but I'm not fluent in them by any means. Would love to be, along with French, Hungarian, Finnish, Elvish (heh). No interest in Far Eastern languages for some reason. Interested in the true sound of ancient Egyptian, Latin, Greek, Aramaic, Sumerian. If only we could time-travel!

*Whew* I'm done!

Hans said...

Yay, another answer.

Here are some comments on the last three participants, which I neglected a bit till now.

Comments to Magdalene...

The OT is indeed fascinating, if also laughable, scary, racist, sexist, genocidal, infanticidal, inconsistent, of obvious terrestrial origins (much of it borrowed, no less), and utter bollocks as a guide to morality or historical or philosophical "truth," whatever that might be.

But I'm continually fascinated by Cain and Abel, Abraham and Isaac, Enoch, Job, Ezekiel, Daniel, and all the rest of it. Within the text and also without; in other words in the actual historical context in which it was set down in writing, then later cobbled together as the Pentateuch/Torah, then the Old Testament, and how so many other writings of the times were strategically left behind... Oh, and Sardines sounds like a hoot, I dunno why we don't play that variation here. I'd play!

Comments on Bill's answers...

A1: I had to check to make sure this wasn't Emapth.
A2: Good choices!
A3: Crystal Quest?
A4: I had to look up Alexander Kent. Naval battles!
A5: Ah yes, recess...
B7: =)
C1: Yeah, too big a question. Good ones though.
C2: The Sun King will see you now!
C7: Not many fans of athletes here...
D2: Good point.
D3: I think you're selling yourself short.
D5: Good honesty.
E1: Good score.
E6: Lol! Haven't heard that one before.
E7: Agree.
F1: You're still pretty strong.
F2: Awesome! I wish I could fly a plane. Like an F-22.
F4: Cheater!
G2: Empath hates that I like motorcycles :(
G5: Yeah, you've very good at it.
C7: Nothing wrong with plain coffee.
H5: Hehe. I never thought of non-family photos! Boring!
H7: You're much tougher than some of us.
I1: Shoulda kept up the sousaphone!!!
I2: Wow, lots of savory/salty people here.
I3: But do you like them better with lemon?
I4: Haha. 2nd best answer all-around on this post.
I5: Lots of broken clavicles...

You may go rest now.

Comments on Mandula's answers...

A1: I didn't know you were such a rocker!
A4: All great choices.
A5: Thanks, I'll look them up.
A6: Not science? *Gasp*
B7: I guess you don't have much choice...
C1: Ah yes, Mesoamerica. Good one!
C2: Again, I'll check all these out.
C5: Hehe.
C6: Hmm, no surprise there.
D2: You're a very good listener.
D3: A good catch is literally a good fish to catch, but the slang meaning is a good person to find as a boyfriend/girlfriend/spouse.
D5: I agree from what I know of you.
D7: Yet still better than mine.
E1: LOL! This is quite possibly the best answer from anyone on the whole questionnaire. Lol...
E4: That counts.
E5: That doesn't - teeth aren't organs!
E6: Dean Winchester, lol. You and your TV...
E7: You agree exactly with my mom and brother.
F1: I dunno, you look pretty strong!
F2: That's a great story and a very nice thing you did.
F3: Ooh, I want to go there.
F4: Cheater!
F5: Haha.
F7: Hisss!!
G1: Another word for this is Polytheistic.
G4: Ask George for a Hummer so you can practice.
G7: What about coffee/cafés in general?
H1: Horrible number! Ick.
H2: Good for you.
H4: I know how you feel...
I1: You should have formed a band :)
I3: Yeah! You go, girl.
I4: Lol.
I6: o.O
I7: You speak English very well.

Thank you! Very interesting answers!

A1: ....and proud of it. _and_ i’m a popper/discoqueen too. In the same time. :D

A6: We don’t have subjects in school called science – there were individually biology, chemistry, phisycs, math, history, etc. But i liked the drawing classes too. :)

B7: I do have a choice, i have an ubuntu cd, but i dont think i ever wanna use it... im okay with my dirty old XP. :D

D2: Thank you. :)

D3: Oh, okay, so, i think im not the goldfish the boys want – im not beautiful, nor rich, although i was/am told to be good in bed and in the kitchen too. :)

E1: Thankx. :D

F1: I am weak as a girl. :D

F2: :)

F7: I was only 10... :) (excuse...?)

G1: Ohh, yepp, thanks. :D

G4: If i only... :)))))

G7: Usually capucchino, or sometimes (summers) ice coffee, or irish coffee. But i drink coffee at daytime very rarely.

H1: Why? Best number, ever. :)

I1: Alone? And what should i have named that band, Octopussy? :D

I3: But i dont drink coke too often, i prefer (from sodas) ginger or tonic, or simple fruit juices. And tomato juice, of course. :)

I6: ?

I7: Khm, try to do my best. Not always successfully. :D

Metamatician said...

A1: That's nice. You should meet my sis, you two would get along great.
A6: It's the same here, goofball. I meant "science" as in ANY of the sciences... You MUST have liked Geology and Chemistry, since you love metals and precious stones. Or do you just like shiny things?
B7: Watch your language! I happen to use XP too! Not gonna downgrade to Vista or 7, and Ubuntu doesn't seem worth the hassle... so XP it is, for now. I'll save for that Macintosh someday.
D3: That's all that matters!
F1: You ARE a girl. I hope...
F7: You are excused, then.
G4: Remember, the sack of gold...
G7: Those all sound good.
H1: 19 is most definitely NOT the best number, unless it's a woman's age (lol, jk). First of all it's odd, which is a crime, and secondly it's a prime, which is a felony!!
I1: No, you would need 7 other women in the band to use that name.
I3: You should drink more Coke. It's healthy for your teeth and your stomach, and it instantly dissolves other food, so you'll never get fat.
I6: Just showing my dislike of sweet wines and for your dislike of beer.
I7: Successful almost all the time. Remember in the question I said "Don't be humble!" I meant, it too. :)

Mandula said...

Lol, okay, but I will grow 6 more hands to be an individual Octopussy (I dont need concurrency ;) ), will drink 19 litre of coke every day to stay fit and charming, while Im learning science on my xp-guarded pc. Then go and try to lift that very heavy sack of gold to buy me a beautiful monster truck, in which I will listening to pop and rock and heavy metal infinitely. :D

Thank you, Rex. Nice to hear from you. Won't event attempt to comment on your answers, they sort of speak for themselves.

Cheers - hope the cricket is chirping along quite nicely for ya.

Thesaurus Rex said...

my pleasure, old boy. 2 years ago you said you might take up cricket. I reckon you'd love it, appeal to your gentle sense of Anglophilia. You don't have to be any good, but think as you are a 'big sports fan' as you say stateside, you probably wont be too shabby. Doesn't rain so often in CA so get yarass out there and learn the delicate Zen art of leg spin. Look some up on utube to whet your appetite. T20 is a short vesion of the game which would probably appeal to baseball lovers as the ball is white and tends to disappear into the animated crowd with uncricketlike regularity and frequency. Very big in India, check it out dude. End of Cricket Evangelism, have a nice day.

Metamatician said...

The only problem with what you are proposing is that I would immediately dominate the feeble US competition and be ushered into the UK (or India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal...) with a lucrative contract awaiting me but with homesickness tugging at my mack. Well, damn the homesickness, I'll take the money!

F3 US
F4 tough one!! gentle life doesn't sound that bad and I'd love to live a long life, but no passion at all sounds terrible
F5 anonymous
F6 loved & poor
F7 yes

G1 agnostic/atheist - of course I can't know for sure. It would be sort of nice and would explain a lot if there was some greater force, but for sure it can't be any of the religions of our world
G2 yes! But merely as a passanger
G3 a classic dilemma but I suppose I'd rather lose my hearing
G4 Not very good, my mind wanders too easily

Comments on Mist's answers:

All the 'A' questions just said "3 OF your favorite" not "Your 3 favorite", because I knew to choose the top 3 of these things would be too hard. But that's ok.

A3 Crash Bandicoot kicks butt. Wii Sports is fun.
A6 A left-brained person! Lots of physicists visiting my site...
A7 What's floorball?
B2 Homemade burgers from the BBQ are yummy!!
B3 You don't want a house at all?
B5 I could have guessed this one :-)
B7 Try a Mac!
C2 That's a thoughtful answer :)
C3-C4 That a lot of half people! Just kidding.
C6 I know the Settlers of Catan well, very fun. Haven't Heard of Puerto Rico, though I've been to the real island! What's the game like? Also, if you like Settlers, try Carcassonne sometime, or any game by Reiner Knizia :)
C7 Yup, me too. For his pure willpower and stamina.
D3 Hehe. Confidence! That's a good trait.
D5 Also to be applauded. Probably a good feature for a doctor.
D7 Funny, everyone thinks they have a below-average memory! Someone has to be average!
E5 Still have that appendix then, eh?
E6 What exactly do you mean by international? Non-Finnish and Non-Swedish? Or names that occur across many cultures? Any examples?
F1 Good for you. I need more of that. I used to have a ton, but I've let myself go in recent years :-|
F2 Both are very brave things.
F4 Yeah, tough question. Agreed.
F7 I think I continue to be the only person here who wasn't baptized! Come visit me in Hell, everyone.
G1 Sounds like agnostic to me. I feel the same way. No reasonable person can be a complete atheist, IMO. That's just another form of faith. And yes, the organized religions are all bollocks. The only ones I admire aren't really religions at all, they're philosophies - Taoism and Zen Buddhism.
G2 Ok, I'll be the driver then!
G5 Thanks for being honest!
G6 That seems to be a general trend here as well...
H2 Good to hear.
H6 Where you live, that's a very good answer :)
H7 OMG! Tell me how you've avoided it! (Only if you care to.)
I3 I agree about the diet versions. But Coke beats Pepsi for the normal versions! (IMO, obviously). When I have diet, I like to put some fresh lemon juice in it if I have a lemon around. If it's from a vending machine, then oh well.
I4 Bears tend to be a fear for lots of people (along with snakes, dogs, and spiders). Maybe not a phobia, just a normal but definite fear. You can see why though... More bear answers than anything else here.
I5 Lucky again! Didn't you play on the monkey bars when you were little, jump off of swings, go skiing, or play tackle football/rugby? Hehe.
I6 It kinda depends on the situation, doesn't it?
I7 Ok, you're the current record holder!!! Wow.

A7 Seems it sometimes called floor hockey, you find info on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floorball
B3 For the moment I really like living in the city center and really prefer living in a flat
C3-C4 Halflings in the land of elves!
C6 Puerto Rico is really worth a try, my favorite. I didn't like Carcassone nearly as much.
D7 Yeah, it's like driving skills, very few think they're below average
E5 Yeah, I had a tiny birth mark removed when I was a kid, hardly counts as an organ although removing the stitches made me faint (!)
E6 I KNEW you'd get stuck on this, as a matter of fact I realized soon afterwards that I should have been more specific, I meant mainly the Finnish-Swedish-English axis and apologize to the billions of people who do not speak any of those, but they're not reading this ;-).
H7 Maybe it has to do with D3? Or then it's just a question of definition of a heartbreak
I3 Coke with lemon sounds delicious. Came to think of a coke drink that I happened to see a special import batch of in a store a few days ago: Cherry Coke, that must be the best coke there is, too bad they normally never have it here.
I5 This was about broken bones right? Suppose I've been too scared and careful always (knocking on wood)
I6 Yeah, best is a good (successive) combination of all of them.
I7 Hooray!

Metamatician said...

A7 Ok, I know what floorball/floorhockey is now that I've seen the pic. Never played it but I've played street hockey and similar sports. Anyway, looks like a lot of fun.

C6 I'll try Puerto Rico then. Cool, a new game!

D7 Lol. True.

E5 What a wuss! No wonder you didn't go into surgery.

E6 Ok, got it now.

I3 I used to LOVE Cherry Coke growing up. Not so much now, but it's still pretty good. A bit sweet for my adult taste buds.

I6 Line em up!

Kiitos!
