You Are The Hermit

You posses a great deal of wisdom and the ability to see people for who they are.

You are always looking ahead at the future, developing visions.

A loner, you tend to travel by yourself through life, seeking your own truth.

You don't crave material things or fancy titles. You have no baggage.

Your fortune:

It's possible that there is a unknown guiding figure in your life, ready to help you.

All you have to do is find this person and seek their advice.

It's also possible that you need to start seeking the meaning of your own life.

Either way, there's some deep thinking you need to undertake, and it needs to be done soon.

You Are The Wheel of Fortune

You represent the cycles of life, death, and rebirth.
You embrace change, the the ups and downs of life.
Fate is something you accept, even when you could possibly change things.
Big things tend to happen to you more than other people.

Your fortune:

Something huge is about to happen in your life, and you have little control over it.
You must accept your destiny, but luckily it is good fortune that has come your way.
Big things and big changes are about to come your way.
And while things will be intense for a while, they will be followed by a period of rest

Quelle strange. Actually my personal tarot card is the Star.

Tarot is rubbish.

Ah and there I disagree with you. Tarot is probably rubbish if it's being misused as an attempt by the ignorant to predict the future, but if used as a means to access the higher self, as in meditation for instance it can be a very useful and valuable tool.

For years I've used a Zen version of the tarot pack as an aid to insight and communication with myself. It's been helpful, inspiring and downright funny sometimes, but that's just what works for me. We're all unique in our approach to problem solving, which is a great thing.

Well in that case the object of meditation could be a wide variety of things. I mean Tarot in the strict sense that it is played, is nonsense just like astrology. They may be fun for people, but they're not any more accurate than guessing under controlled circumstances. The "masters" will use subtle clues you provide yourself to hone in on a fortune for you, and make it seem magical. But there's no magic in the world, only natural law, as far as I've ever experienced. Until I'm confronted with evidence and not just anecdotes that one of these esoteric systems can predict something under controlled circumstances more than chance can, I won't put any stock in them. Astrology for instance has got to be the most inane thing there is. How could the planets' location and movements possibly effect the lives of people on earth? Answer: They can't. It just a remnant of the days of alchemy and other pre-scientific efforts to understand the world, but it has no place in today's world unless it's recognized as simply being a diversion and is read for fun. I read that Britain is the most "believing" nation in astrology - something like 50% confess to a belief in it - and it makes me think that Americans with our fundamental Christian tumor isn't alone in being a bastion of backwardness. Sorry if this offends any true believers but it's what I think. I don't believe in any system that fails under controlled study - for example, astrology clipping from the news paper have often been given to people but with the signs changed, and it's "fit" them just as well as when the signs were left as they originally were. In other words, it's all general enough that someone will find something in their horoscope that applies to their life, and the bits that don't are overlooked or quickly forgotten. It's human nature that makes this system appear to work for some, not any basis in truth.

Mundane astrology such as those in newspapers is of course rubbish. How can you divide the experiences of the entire world population into twelfths? However, I am interested in very specific charting for individuals and therein lies a world of difference. We know that the moon affects the tides and there is evidence that it also affects human behaviour. On a full moon there are usually more violent incidences necessitating police call outs, mental hospitals find that patients are more disturbed and there is also an increase in visits by pregnant women, to the labour ward of hospitals around this time. I used to hate being on call on a full moon!

I guess, I just like to keep an open mind about everything. There is more in heaven and earth than we understand, that's for sure!

Amen to having an open mind.

But I have to say I'm still not convinced there is statistical evidence of the full moon having any effect on human beings beyond the narrow bounds of chance, if you compile enough data. Most of it seems to be triggered by the people themselves, who have had the idea of a malicious full moon embedded in their minds from folklore since you. An increase in crime, if there is one, can be explained by the increased light afforded by a full moon and the sharper shadows it casts. People who are insane may have psychosomatic triggers associated with a full moon after hearing from other patients or from, again, common folk lore than it is a time of heightened malevolence. As for increased births, well... see this link:

Full moon and lunar effects.

I'm not saying you're wrong, or this site (or many like it is the Truth, but for myself, I need more evidence. I personally love the full moon, and I suffer from mental disorders myself.

I think everyone should do her or his own research on the subject and, coupled with their life experience (like you mentioned), make up their own mind. I personally have seen the moon myth "debunked" by too many studies to believe it, and how much less effect than could planets literally millions of miles have on anyone or anything on the Earth?

But that's just my belief. I try not to step in any pulpits and tell others what to think. It would be arrogant of me to proclaim my views are more correct than another's. In the end I don't really care whether people believe in astrological "readings" and such, if they believe in it and especially if it helps them. Their beliefs are their own choice, and the consequences of acting in accordance to those beliefs their responsibility. I'm in no position to tell someone what Truth is, but I know what believe and what I don't.

Ok, go ahead and call me a hard-head. =]

...And if you have any studies to link to showing evidence of a correlation between the full moon and bizarre effects, please post them (and I'm not being sarcastic). I'd like to read them! The problem for me is the "evidence" always seems to be anecdotal and not properly studied with controls, double-blind methods, and so forth. But I'd love to see some studies that were done scientifically and showed these effects; it would make life more interesting. One more mystery to solve!

Here's a newspaper article I remember reading on the subject, it also cites some research which you could check out if you're particularly bothered.(I'm not, feeling lazy and very grumpy today.) It might be interesting reading, but like you suggest, research has to be pretty watertight with good controls to be worth publishing.

There is of course the perfectly reasonable explanation that people are out and about getting up to more mischief on full moon nights, simply because they can see more. It's all interesting stuff anyway.
