TWIN

Her imagery is reflected by reflection itself.
The whirl, the stream, the tide, the bay, the water

all silvery surfaces, which can show her

image to herself and him at the same time,
as he underneath sees his image even as she does;
it's hard to simplify:

You must take a deep breath and dive in.

To deny your twin soul,
is one of the harshest mistakes you can make;
the only result is a decoupling of the mind
from the body and the world and the things of the world.
Rivers dislodge rocks from their ancient homes; they are
tumbled and lost on their way to the great uncaring sea.

They never will be home again.

I'd really like to hear what you are saying in an non abstract sense. I love what this is saying in a gut-feeling way, but I don't want to miss your meaning either.

Sure, no problem. The first stanza is my reaction to a relationship describe in a Bjork song called "Bachelorette". Here are the lyrics to that song:
---
I'm a fountain of blood
In the shape of a girl
You're the bird on the brim
Hypnotized by the whirl

Drink me, make me feel real
Wet your beak in the stream
The game we're playing is love
Love's a two way dream

I'm a path of cinders
Burning under your feet
You're the one who walks me
I'm your one way street

I'm a whisper in water
A secret for you to hear
You are the one who grows distant
When I beckon you near

I'm a tree that grows hearts
One for each that you take
You're the intruders hand
I'm the branch that you break

Leave me now, return tonight
The tide will show you the way
If you forget my name,
You will go astray
Like a killer whale
Trapped in a bay

Life's a necklace of fears
Your uncried tears on a string
Our love will untie them, come here
loving me is the easiest thing.
Come here...
---

I left out the chorus and some stuff at the end for brevity. That song seems to describe a relationship where the man is animalistic, abusive, and a taker.

She doesn't like it, but she also needs him, and wants to feel valued and loved and see her importance in the reflection of his neediness (all the mirrorlike surfaces mentioned).

The second verse (of my poem) continues that thought but is directed at someone who could have been a soulmate or "twin soul" - in this case someone living way north of me; how painful and disruptive it can be when two puzzle pieces that seem to fit together perfectly are kept forcibly apart.

That help?

Yes, I read it the 2nd time with some idea of what made you write it. I know that poets don't need to explain, but this one somehow felt deep and mysterious and caught me in the web.
