anyone read anne sexton? any comments?
Yeah, I've read her works. She was a friend of Sylvia Plath's and had the same "gifts of the self-dramatizing and self-destructive kind" as a critic rightly put it.She was also obsessed with death, like Plath.I like confessional poetry and write stuff in the same genre. But after a point, I like to retreat to humor to keep my sanity. Obsession with the macabre is scary. Having said that, I must say, wow! what a looker! Anne Sexton was supposed to be incredibly beautiful and the photographer has done a good job of capturing her in one of her relatively rare happy moods...
Yes, she was good looking as was Sylvia, in different ways. I think Sylvia was the better poet by far, but that's not a slight on Anne - it's like saying someone's a wonderful writer but not in Shakespeare's league. My opinion, anyway. But I also like some of the other confessional poets like Snodgrass and Lowell, just not as much. I seem to identify with women all throughout my life. Hmm....
